Frequently asked questions

Explore our detailed answers covering temperament, size, health screening, grooming, and what to expect when bringing home an Erricoon kitten.

What is the typical temperament of a Maine Coon?

Maine Coons are famously known as the gentle giants of the cat world. They possess an affectionate, playful, and calm nature, making them wonderful companions for families, individuals, and households with other pets.

How large do your Maine Coons grow?

Maine Coons are one of the largest domesticated cat breeds. Males typically reach between 6 to 9 kg (or more), while females generally range between 4 to 6 kg. They grow slowly and often do not reach full physical maturity until they are 3 to 5 years old.

Are your cats and kittens GCCF registered?

Yes, Erricoon Mainecoons is proudly registered with the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF). We breed strictly to breed standard, preserving the true-to-type Maine Coon look, conformation, and health.

What health testing is carried out on your breeding cats?

The health and wellbeing of our cats is paramount. Our breeding cats undergo comprehensive genetic testing for breed-specific hereditary conditions, including HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy), SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy), and PKDef (Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency).

What grooming routine do Maine Coons require?

While Maine Coons have a luxurious semi-longhair coat, it is relatively easy to maintain compared to other long-haired breeds. A thorough comb through two to three times a week keeps their fur free from tangles, reduces shedding, and strengthens your bond with your cat.

What is included when I adopt a kitten from Erricoon?

Every Erricoon kitten leaves our cattery fully vaccinated, microchipped, regularly wormed and flea treated, and health checked by a qualified vet. They also come with GCCF registration documentation, a pedigree certificate, and a comprehensive kitten starter pack.

At what age can kittens leave for their new homes?

In accordance with GCCF guidelines and to ensure proper physical and social development, our kittens stay with their mother until they are at least 13 weeks of age, following completion of their full vaccination course.

How can I reserve a kitten?

We invite prospective owners to view our available kittens page or get in touch directly. After discussing your home environment and lifestyle, a non-refundable deposit secures your chosen kitten once a litter is available.
